At Youth & Longevity we pay close attention to maintaining good levels of Glutathione in our patients using novell compound – S-acetyl Glutathione.
Dr. Berman thinks that without optimal levels of Glutathione a person cannot maintain good state of health. So what exactly is Glutathione?
Glutathione is a small molecule that is found in almost every cell and in the body . This molecule is the our main antioxidant, which means that it helps to protect cells from damage caused by harmful substances called free radicals. The free radicals can be caused by various sources such as exposure to pollution, smoking, radiation, and poor diet.
Glutathione is composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glycine, and glutamine. These amino acids work together to protect cells by neutralizing the free radicals and removing them from the body. Glutathione also helps to keep the immune system strong, and it plays a role in the detoxification of certain harmful substances, such as drugs and heavy metals.
One of the key benefits of glutathione is its ability to protect cells from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs when the body’s production of free radicals is greater than the ability of the antioxidants to neutralize them. This can lead to damage to the cells, tissues, and organs, and it is believed to play a role in the development of many diseases, including cancer, heart disease, and Parkinson’s disease.
Another important benefit of glutathione is its ability to boost the immune system. This is because glutathione is involved in the production of immune cells and helps to keep them functioning properly. This makes it an important molecule for preventing and fighting off infections and diseases.
Many health oriented people are aware of the importance of glutathione and use it in oral form as a supplement. However, the main issue with oral glutatione is its extremely low bioavailability. Which means that when taken by mouth it just does not get into cells.
When glutathione is taken orally, it is rapidly degraded by enzymes in the digestive system and even the only a small portion that remains intact, is poorly absorbed because of the large size of this molecule. This low bioavailability means that the body does not receive a significant amount of glutathione, making it difficult to achieve therapeutic benefits. It costs a lot of money too.
In attempt to improve absorption scientists created lipo-somal form of glutathion, but this improved its bioavailability insignificantly. This is why Dr. Berman prefers to use S-acetyl Glutathione in his practice.
S-Acetyl Glutathione is a modified form of glutathione that is designed to overcome the bioavailability issues associated with oral glutathione. This is the modified molecule in which the small acetyl tail is attached to regular molecule of glutathione. Mind you that acetyl group is ubiquitous in the body. Acetyl plays a crucial role in several biological processes, particularly in the regulation of gene expression and cellular energy production.
Unlike regular glutathione, S-Acetyl Glutathione is more stable and is not rapidly degraded in the digestive system. It also makes glutathione to be easy to absorb and enter into the cells, where acetyl tail is detached, and acetyl group is used in important process of acetylation. In medical studies S-acetyl glutathione is shown to significantly increase the levels of glutathione inside cells.
Despite its improved bioavailability, S-Acetyl Glutathione is still not widely available and can be difficult to find in stores. This is due to the fact that it is a relatively new form of glutathione and is not so well known to the public. At Youth & Longevity we proudly offer S-Acetyl Glutathione to our patients since 2015.
